Botox®

What is BOTOX ®?

BOTOX® Therapy (from Allergan Inc.) has been used for years to treat muscular problems including eye deviation, eyelid spasm as well as facial spasms.  Aging is associated with the development of wrinkles and furrows on the face.  These lines may develop as a result of sun exposure and gravity on the dermal collagen or due to facial muscle action on the skin. BOTOX® treatment reversibly freezes or paralyses muscles, therefore it may be used to treat facial lines caused primarily by the action of the muscles on the skin.  Treatment areas include the deep crease between the eyebrows, crow's feet wrinkles and forehead lines. The effect of the treatment can take up to 14 days to work.

BOTOX® Therapy may also be used for the treatment of excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis), headache and migraine.

Are there any side effects?

Most patients find the the injections only cause mild, temporary discomfort.  Side effects of treatments are rare.   There may be a slight burning sensation around the injection site for 1-2 minutes at the time of injection and some bruising can occur.  Occasionally a temporary drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid may occur.  When injected around the eye a possible side effect may be dry eyes or difficulty in seeing clearly.  If dry eyes develop the doctor should be informed immediately.  Rarely a transient numbness may develop in the treated area.  Patients may develop antibodies or allergies to the botulinum toxin although this is unusual.  An extremely rare side effect may be generalised weakness or fatigue.  If you are prone to cold sores at the injection site then treatment may bring out another eruption.

These effects, if they occur, are noticeable a few days after the injection and usually wear off after 2-4 weeks.  Finally, any injection carries a small risk of infection.

Who should not have BOTOX® treatment?

If you are pregnant, breast-feeding or have certain muscular diseases then treatment is NOT recommended.

How long does it last?

Repeat treatments are usually needed every 3-4 months over a twelve month period. Clinical trials report that some patients who have had treatment over 12 months are only requiring further treatments once or twice per year.

What is the cost?

PRICES start from £180 - £299 depending on areas treated

Testimonials...

Ms SB, from Truro

From the moment I entered your clinic I began to feel at ease.

The friendly welcome and the way in which all the treatments were fully explained helped me make the decision to proceed. I

was so impressed by the results that I have had several other treatments.

I am thrilled to say my friends and family think I look wonderful ! I

I'm not telling them my secret!!

Thank you so much.

Mrs. G.T., from Truro

I had noticed the increasing lines on my face much to my horror and decided the time had come to do something about it. The one hour consultation was a great way to learn all about the treatments which would be suitable for my skin. Kerry was extremely caring in the way in which she performed my selected treatment ensuring I had as little discomfort as possible and explaining what to expect at each stage. I hate needles so was glad she applied a numbing cream first!

I have continued having skincare advice at the clinic and the level of professionalism and genuine concern for my wellbeing is such that I would never consider going anywhere else.
